Fulmore surpasses 1000 points as Patriots roll over USCA

AIKEN, SC – Francis Marion University junior Shaunice Fulmore reached the 1000-career point mark, while the Patriot squad made a season-high 13 three-pointers, Wednesday evening (Jan. 3) to help FMU to an 88-64 win over USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball action.

FMU captures its fourth straight win to improve to 7-3 on the campaign and 4-1 in the PBC. The Patriots will return home for their next event as they host Clayton State University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center.

The Patriots had three 23-point scorers in the contest as Fulmore, senior Khai Chandler, and sophomore Abigail Bullock each posted that total. Chandler also hauled down a game-tying high seven rebounds. Fulmore, a native of Lake City, S.C., needed 10 points to become the 29th player in FMU program history, and the third on the current Patriot squad, to reach 1000 career points. Bullock's total was a career-high for her.

USCA (3-8, 0-5) was led by freshman guard Marissa Bruce with 15 points, while junior Kyrie' Chandler tallied 12 points.

After an early 4-4 tie, the Patriots went on an 8-1 run to take a 12-5 lead and would not let the Pacers back into the game. Fulmore reached the milestone at the 5:08 mark of the second quarter, giving her 11 points and the Patriots a 31-12 advantage. FMU would hold a 45-25 lead heading into halftime and led as much as 29 points coming with 1:29 remaining in the game.

Francis Marion shot an impressive 54.2 percent from behind the three-point arc, while connecting on 49.3 percent from the field as a whole.
