COLLEGE GROVE, TN – Francis Marion University sophomore Grant Sellers fired an even-par 72 during Tuesday's (Oct. 8) final round to help Francis Marion University post a Top-10 finish at the Intercollegiate at The Grove Golf Tournament hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.
The three-day event, which was shorted to 36 holes due to wet playing conditions on Monday, was played on the 7,368-yard, par-72 The Grove Club course.
The University of Tennessee earned the team title, leading from wire-to-wire, as the Volunteers finished with a 284-285=569 scorecard. Lamar University placed second at 585, while Lipscomb University (588), Western Kentucky University (588), and the University of South Alabama (589) rounded out the Top-5. The Patriots tallied a 303 team score on Tuesday to go along with Sunday's 299 round to finish tied with Mercer University for 10th place at 602.
Junior John Burghardt was the top Patriot finisher as he tied for 37th position. He shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 151. Both Sellers (80-72=152) and junior Jacob Morris (75-77=152) ended the event tied for 41st place. Sellers is a product of McBee High School.
Patriot junior and Florence native Michael Rials competed as an individual and finished tied for 79th with an 80-82=162 total.
Tennessee's Tyler Johnson fired a final-round 68 to earn medalist honors with a 6-under-par 138 total.
The Patriots will return to action on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14-15) when they play in the Autotrader Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia State University in Duluth, Ga.
