KIAWAH ISLAND, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore Grainger Howle fired a career-best equaling one-under-par 71 during Tuesday's (Nov. 5) final round as the Patriots concluded their 2019 fall schedule with a 17th-place showing at the Kiawah Men's Golf Classic at Turtle Point.
The three-day, 54-hole event was played on the 6,911-yard, par-72 Turtle Point Golf Course.
Francis Marion carded a 294 team score on Tuesday to finish with an 896 tally. The Patriots occupied 17th position in the team standings at the end of each round.
Auburn University (833) led from start to finish and bested second-place College of Charleston (848) by 15 strokes. Augusta University (854) finished third, followed by Jacksonville State University (862), and the University of Memphis (865) rounding out the Top 5.
FMU freshman Casper Kennedy was the top Patriot finisher in the players' standings as his 73-75-74=222 scorecard was good enough for a 55th-place tie.
Howle, a native of Darlington, finished in a deadlock for 70th position at 81-73-71=225, while junior John Burghardt (73-76-78=227) tied for 83rd, senior Mark Goodall (77-75-76=228) placed 88th, and sophomore Pierre De Caevel (80-79-73=232) was 97th.
Auburn's Jovan Rebula (64-66-73=203) earned medalist honors by a three-stroke margin.
Francis Marion will return to action on Feb. 24-25, 2020, as the Patriots host the 15th-annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament on Hilton Head Island.
