Pacers rally past FMU Volleyball for 5-set win

AIKEN, SC – First-place USC Aiken used a 4-0 run midway through the fifth and final set to rally past upset-minded Francis Marion University for a 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-11, 15-9 Peach Belt Conference win, Friday night (Nov. 1) in volleyball action.

Francis Marion (15-11, 2-5) will play at Lander University on Saturday at 2 p.m.  USCA improves to 22-2 overall and 6-1 in PBC play.

Junior Courtney Abdur-Rahim led FMU with a season-high 17 kills to go along with 15 digs and four blocks, while sophomores Alyssa Hansen and Iyanla Thigpen tallied nine kills apiece.  Thigpen registered 13 blocks, the most by a Patriot in 17 seasons and only four shy of the school record.  Hansen also dug up 14 balls.

FMU sophomore setter Finn Millians dished out 44 assists and had 13 digs, while senior libero Natalie Vaughn posted 20 digs.

Christine Carroll led USCA with 20 kills.

The 4-0 spurt by the Pacers erased a 7-6 Patriot advantage in the fifth set and gave USCA a lead it would not relinquish.  FMU had taken two of the first three sets in the match.
